Korean Pokemon Booster Box Buying Guide 2026

Before buying a Korean Pokemon Booster Box, here is everything you need to know: differences from Japanese, formats, real pull rates, authenticity and pitfalls to avoid. A guide based on our direct-import and box-opening experience.

Korean or Japanese: what's the difference?

The Korean version is almost identical to the Japanese one: same content, same number of packs, same pull rates. Only the language changes. The only small nuance: the material and finish of Korean cards differ slightly from other languages.

In short, you get the Japanese equivalent in Korean — often at a much better price.

Booster box formats

Not all booster boxes are the same:

  • Most common format: 30 packs of 5 cards (150 cards).
  • Some sets: 20 packs of 7 cards (e.g. SV2A, SV11B) — with different pull rates.

Always check the format of the set you're interested in before buying.

Pull rates (indicative)

For a 30-pack / 5-card booster box, the usual quotas are roughly:

  • ~1 secret card
  • ~3 AR cards
  • ~4 to 5 EX cards

The secret card can be a Gold or an Alternative Secret (the latter appears roughly once every 10 boxes, approximately).

These figures are approximate and vary by set. Some sets are known to be harder to pull an alternative secret from.

Special case: Sword & Shield block

These boxes have no guaranteed secret. The known quota is about a 90% chance of getting a secret card.

Why no quota is guaranteed 100%

Key point: no booster box is guaranteed 100% on its quotas, and no one — supplier or reseller — can guarantee it. The reason: packing is done at the factory, and factory bugs happen.

In practice, we have already seen (rare):

  • only 2 AR instead of 3;
  • very rarely, no secret at all;
  • and conversely, sometimes 4 AR instead of 3 (nice surprise).

It's neither the supplier's nor the reseller's fault: it's the randomness of factory packing.

My personal experience

  • In one SV3A box, I once pulled 1 SAR + 2 SR in the same box (exceptional).
  • On the SV1A set, I saw bugs with 2 or 4 AR in a box.

Good to know: these bugs mostly affect older sets and older print runs. Sets after SV4 are less prone to them — but it remains always possible.

Authenticity: Korean protects you from fakes

  • The well-known trick of tearing a card to check for a blue/black layer in the middle does not work on Korean cards.
  • To date, no fake Korean card has been identified.
  • Why? For scammers, copying Japanese or English is far more profitable: same production cost, but a much higher resale price.

As a result, collecting Korean shields you from counterfeits — for now.

Watch out for "search packs" (single packs)

Be very careful when buying single Korean packs.

The Korean format is known to sometimes have repeating patterns, which makes hits spottable inside a box (it stays random by slot, but the risk exists). These are called "search packs", and they are very common in South Korea.

The right move: favour a sealed box or a trusted seller.
